Every day at Cairn Hill Summer Program is carefully planned to offer exploration and fun activities connected to a weekly theme, leaving plenty of time for play and rest when needed. Cairn Hill Nature Preschool Summer Program July - August
Week 1 Force and Flying We will explore the high skies and create our own little models out of recycled materials and natural material. We will get an opportunity to try them and discover what works best! We will also create a connection with our own means of travel and even some animal ones.
Week 2 Wild Water Play We will be learning about cause and effect, about warm and cool, about floating and sinking. We will also be learning new words, and thinking about the wetness of the water. We will create fun experiments with water and discover its properties. We will discover some ways you can use water to make art. We will get very wet and have lots of fun!
Week 3 Bicycle Blast Of all childhood adventures, learning to ride a bicycle is by far one of the most profound. For children, it’s often their first taste of independence and their first experience with self-reliance. As they learn to pedal and go faster and faster, they often feel enlightened and free. We will be learning how to ride as well as how to be safe while doing so.
Week 4 Marvelous Mud Let the mess begin! Real dirt, real mud and a real lot of good wholesome mess make for the best play and learning experiences! Mud play is a fun resource where children can get real hands-on experience. It can help them learn some important life skills as well as bring them closer to nature. This week will do lots of mud activities that will explore mud inside and out with science, sensory, math and building play. Sensory play activities are so important for children.
Week 5 Spectacular Sports Development from sport goes beyond learning new physical skills. Sport helps children develop better ways to cope with the highs and lows of life. Children learn to lose. Losing teaches children to bounce back from disappointment, cope with unpleasant experiences and is an important part of becoming resilient. Playing sports helps children learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way. It also helps to develop patience and understand that it can take a lot of practice to improve both their physical skills and how they handle a team effort.!
Week 6 Bubble Blow Out The swish of the bubble wand. The magic when bubbles appear. Watching those rainbow spheres floating. Chasing after the bubbles. The wet pop when the bubbles break. What’s not to love? Besides being immense fun, there is a whole list of developmental skills being worked on when children are blowing bubbles. Lots of language learning can happen with bubbles! Your child will learn the concepts of over, under, next to, on top of, above, below (e.g., “that bubble is above the flowers, but below the tree.”).
Week 7 Field Day Fun Pool noodles easily lend themselves to a variety of games and races! Children will have a blast maneuvering through assorted teacher created obstacle courses that encourage teamwork and problem-solving. They will be learning to balance, throw, catch, do long lumps, crab walk, skip etc. If anyone has some extra pool noodles, balls or tent stakes, we can put them to good use.
Week 8 Colorful Carnival What better way to end the Summer than with a Carnival celebration! We will be doing tons of extra fun activities such as Face painting, making our own cotton candy and popcorn, and playing great games. At the end of our week on Friday, we will hold a Summer festival for the students and their families. It will be Carnival themed and a great way to celebrate our school community. It will include food, games, prizes, a bouncy house and more!
