Every day at Cairn Hill Summer Program is carefully planned to offer exploration and fun activities connected to a weekly theme, leaving plenty of time for play and rest when needed. June 26th to June 29th: Garden Fun We will spend the week creating wonderful meals from the garden. We will make pizza with fresh toppings, smiley face salads, and more. We will learn how to care for the garden and enjoy its beauty and bounty.
July 2nd to July 6th: Nature Detectives We will become detectives and each day we will investigate new creatures, animals and insects in the forest. We will learn what it means to be a detective and to investigate the world we see around us, finding hidden creatures and clues to woodland life.
July 9th to July 13th: Fairy Houses and Gnomes We will bring magic to life this week through stories of fairies and gnomes. We will go on a scavenger hunt to find gnome treasures and create & discover fairy houses in the woods.
July 16th to July 20th: Art, Animals and Nature Inspiration to create art is everywhere! We will create natural sculptures outside, make recycled art and fashion a special project of our favorite animals. We will get to play, discover and create together.
July 23rd to July 27th: Where the Wild Things Are On this adventure week, we will spend time building forts, exploring nature, and becoming comfortable in the woodlands and forest. We will read books by Maurice Sendak and create our own stories. Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!
July 30th to August 3rd: Exploring with Your Senses Through taste, touch, sight, smell and hearing we will discover nature in every way this week. We will taste from the garden, create art with our hands, notice nature’s color palette, smell the aromatic plants and amazing food we will make from the garden and listen to what we hear on our nature walks.
August 6th to August 10th: Under the Sea We will go under the sea this week and learn about sharks, whales, starfish, crabs and more. Making our own sea creature puppets, we will be inspired to be storytellers and tell our own stories to create an under-the-sea puppet show.
August 13th to August 17th: Going green: Recycle and Reuse This week we will learn all about being green. We will learn about the cycle of life, making art from found and recycled items, learn how to recycle, make and use compost and to work in the garden.
August 20th to August 24th: Wind and Wings We will explore everything that can fly this week , learning about all kinds of birds and flying things, including making our own kites and planes. We will construct our own bird-inspired masks to use in free play.
